RICHARD "BLUE" Skeen
Richard "Blue" Skeen, a true legend in the world of slingshot shooting, was renowned for his unmatched accuracy, speed, and generosity. Born in 1932, Skeen's passion for slingshots began in his youth, and he quickly rose to prominence, becoming a multiple-time national champion. His legendary skills were showcased in his ability to hit 156 consecutive shots in a 3-inch circle from 30 feet, and to fire off 18 or more accurate shots in a minute.
More than just his competitive achievements, Skeen was admired for his sportsmanship and willingness to share his knowledge and passion with others. Fellow shooters recall his humble demeanor, his helpful advice, and his remarkable generosity in gifting his handcrafted slingshots. Stories abound of Skeen casually hitting a soda can from over 300 feet away with his "Long Tom" slingshot, then simply nodding and returning to his bag as if it were nothing out of the ordinary.
Skeen's impact on the slingshot community extended beyond his lifetime. Even after his passing in 2017, shooters like Gary "Flatland" Miller and Dan Hood, of BigDH2000, continued to share stories of his incredible skill, generosity, and lasting influence on the sport. His legacy lives on in the countless shooters he inspired and the friendships he forged throughout his remarkable life.
