His lifelong passion for slingshots began in his childhood, where he rarely found himself without one. This fascination extended into his adulthood, where he became a respected competitor and designer of iconic slingshots like the Beaver, Alley Cat, Flat Cat, and King Cat.

Koehler's influence on the sport is cemented through his authorship of seminal books such as "Slingshot Shooting" and "All About Slingshots," which have become essential guides for serious enthusiasts and competition shooters. Despite a successful career as a hydrologist with the U.S. Geological Survey, where he authored numerous professional papers, Koehler's love for slingshots never waned.
